If you’re applying to Esade University, you might be wondering about the Esade Admissions Test—a unique exam designed to assess your skills in logic, math, reading, and English. Unlike traditional tests, this one focuses on your ability to think critically and work efficiently under time pressure.
To help you feel confident and prepared, we’ve put together 20 common questions and answers about the test. Let’s get started!
1. What is the Esade Admissions Test?
The Esade Admissions Test is an entrance exam designed for students applying to Bachelor’s programs at Esade University. It evaluates logical reasoning, math, reading comprehension, and verbal skills rather than just memorized knowledge.
2. Do I need to take the Esade Admissions Test?
Not always! If you have strong SAT, ACT, or other standardized test scores, you might not need to take it. However, if you don’t have those scores or want another opportunity to showcase your skills, the Esade Admissions Test is a great option. Check Esade’s requirements to be sure.
Many students applying to Esade take the SAT. While Esade’s minimum SAT score is 1200, many students have over 1350. If you can use the SAT to apply to other universities on your list, then it’s worth preparing and taking the SAT multiple times. We’ve written about how to prepare for the Esade Admissions Test if you already prepared for the SAT. If not, consider just preparing for and taking the Esade Test. There are several sections on the Esade Test that aren’t on the SAT, so preparing for one won’t really thoroughly prepare you for the other.
3. Is the Esade Admissions Test difficult?
It’s not necessarily hard, but it’s fast-paced and requires strong logical thinking. The key challenge is answering accurately under time pressure, so practicing speed and strategy is important.
4. How long does the test take?
The test typically lasts about 3 hours, covering different sections such as math, logical reasoning, reading comprehension, numerical calculations, and English.
5. Is the test multiple-choice?
Yes, most questions are multiple-choice, but some require you to fill in missing words, complete logical sequences, or solve numerical problems.
There is also an essay for which you have to type a response to a prompt.
6. Can I prepare for the Esade Admissions Test?
Yes! While Esade doesn’t provide an official prep guide, you can practice logical reasoning puzzles, mental math, reading comprehension, and timed problem-solving exercises to improve your performance.

7. Do I need a calculator for the math section?
No, you cannot use a calculator during the test. You can’t even use a pen, pencil, or paper! The math section focuses on mental calculations, algebra, and problem-solving techniques.
8. What kind of math questions are on the test?
The test can include:
- Basic arithmetic and operations
- Number properties
- Algebraic equations and inequalities
- Geometry and word problems
- Logical and data-based problem-solving
9. What is the logical reasoning section?
This section presents pattern-based puzzles, sequencing questions, and problem-solving tasks where you must recognize relationships and identify the correct answer logically.
10. What is the Sufficiency of Information section?
You’ll read short passages and answer questions about main ideas, supporting details, and logical inferences. This tests your ability to analyze and interpret written information quickly.
You may also see math problem-solving questions in this section. These questions require complex mental calculations and multi-step approaches to problems, all without a pen, paper, or calculator.
11. What does the English test involve?
It assesses grammar, vocabulary, and sentence structure, often asking you to fill in missing words or choose the most grammatically correct sentence.Â
Don’t underestimate this section! There are many things that Native English speakers say and write that are grammatically incorrect, so they will be wrong on the test.
12. Is this the same as the other Esade Test?
There are two Esade Admissions Tests! One is for bachelor’s programs and the other is for graduate programs. If you’re applying for the Bachelor, don’t use the materials for the other test because they won’t help you.
13. Can I retake the Esade Admissions Test if I don’t do well?
In most cases, Esade only allows you to take the test once, so it’s important to prepare well before taking it.
14. Is the test taken online or in person?
Esade typically administers the test online for international students, while some applicants may take it on campus depending on their location.
15. How is the test scored?
We don’t know because you don’t receive a score. Only the admissions department sees your results. Your scores are sent to the admissions team, who will evaluate your overall application. Your results are considered alongside your academic records, essays, and interviews as part of a holistic admissions process. If you do well, you may be invited for an interview as the next step in the admissions process.
16. What happens if I perform poorly on one section?
Don’t worry! The admissions team looks at your overall application, so a weaker section won’t necessarily hurt your chances if other areas are strong. Ideally, you’ll prepare well so you will already know which sections you want to not be worried about (because they are weaknesses) and areas where you can shine.
17. How can I improve my chances of doing well?
- Practice logic puzzles and pattern recognition to strengthen your reasoning skills.
- Solve quick math problems without a calculator to improve speed and accuracy.
- Read and analyze articles or essays to sharpen comprehension skills.
- Time yourself while practicing to get used to the fast-paced format.
