SAT Guidelines for Outside the US

For SAT test-taking purposes only, any student taking the SAT in Dubai is considered an international student living outside the US (it doesn’t matter which passport you have). Here are a few things you need to know about the 2024-2025 SAT test dates in Dubai:

  • The SAT is now offered on the same dates inside the US and outside the US!
  • The SAT is NOT offered all the time. It’s only offered 7 times a year for students in Dubai.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I register for the SAT?

Click this link to register for one of the 2024-2025 test dates and click the register button next to the date.

Can I register for the SAT in May even if it’s only November?

Yes, you can! As long as there is a registration link on the College Board website under the date, you can register to take the SAT on that date. Read our step-by-step instructions to register for the SAT in Dubai.

Where can I take the SAT in Dubai?

Too many places to mention…but we did. Click here for the list of SAT test locations in Dubai. Many schools in Dubai offer the SAT, so you can search on the College Board website for the one closest to you with available seats.

How many times can I take the SAT?

As many as you want. You have “Score Choice,” which means can send 1 or all of your SAT scores to your chosen universities. They will only see the scores you send them, so they won’t know how many times you took the SAT. More than twice is kind of a waste of money though…

Do I need to take the SAT to apply to Canadian universities?

It depends on the university and the curriculum in which you are studying. In general, if you are studying in an American curriculum school, you need to take the SAT. For example, McGill University requires an SAT score of 1150 minimum. Plan accordingly!

How much does it cost to take the SAT in Dubai?

For 2024-2025, it costs AED 408 to take the SAT in Dubai. The standard SAT fee is US $80 plus the international testing fee, which is $43. You must pay the full AED 408 online by credit or debit card when registering for the SAT.

Should I take the SAT if my universities are test-optional?

We hear time and time again that students applying to test-optional universities don’t plan to take the SAT because they don’t think they need to. Well, test-optional and test-blind are two different things. Test-optional means that you can apply to the university without an SAT score. However, many students still submit scores because it can mean scholarships or make up for a middling GPA. Test-blind means that a university won’t look at the scores even if you submit them.

The best way to ensure that you are prepared for contingencies is to prep for the SAT, take it, and submit your scores to test-optional universities if you think it will increase your chances of getting in (meaning your score is over 1,300).

How Many Hours Should I Study for the GRE?

When we start working with GRE students, they often ask us how many hours they should study for the GRE. Our answers are generally very nuanced (great, GRE vocab word!) and depend on what we know of that student, her work schedule, and her timeline for taking the GRE.

However…

There is some advice that we give over and over. In general, you should plan to study for the GRE between 80 and 160 hours. Here’s our expert advice with considerations for different situations.

How long in advance should I study for the GRE?

We recommend considering your earliest deadline and backing up three to four months. Why that long? It gives you time to study leisurely and integrate your family and work commitments. Moreover, this timeline considers that you will take the test at least twice (which is what we also recommend).

Can you study for the GRE in 30 days?

Of course.

Can you study for the GRE in 1 week?

Sure.

But…

What score do you want to achieve? You can be familiar with the test in 1 week or 1 month, but you will not have done sufficient practice to get a high score. If you don’t care what score you get, then sufficient practice isn’t necessary.

However, if you are applying to a competitive program, want to be considered for scholarships, or haven’t decided where you want to apply yet, you need to get the highest GRE score possible. That means you have to put in the work.

How long should I study for the GRE each session?

Each GRE study session should be no more than 2 hours. Why 2 hours?

Because the test is 1 hour and 58 minutes long.

You need to train your brain to focus for 2 hours with no breaks. Consistent, consecutive study sessions will build this focus naturally. Come test day, you’ll be armed with the concentration necessary to score well on the test.

Besides…2 hours of studying is generally easy to schedule everyday. On the weekends, get up at 8 am and you only have to study until lunchtime. Then, you’re done for the day.

Prefer to study from 1 pm to 3 pm? Ok. Your mornings and evenings are free. No matter what, get that studying done. Here’s how to organize your time:

Two-Hour Study Sessions

Here are some options for how to organize your two-hour study blocks. We recommend completing a comprehensive review with your tutor and/or favorite test prep book BEFORE doing only section practice.

  • Quant Review Day: Meet with your tutor or read a book chapter for 2 hours or work problems related to the concept (for example, quadratic equations) for 2 hours
  • Verbal Review Day: Meet with your tutor or read a book chapter for 2 hours or work problems related to the concept (for example, text completion questions) for 2 hours
  • Quant Practice Day: 2 untimed quant sections + review after each question or 2 timed quant sections + review after entire section, repeat if time left
  • Verbal Practice Day: write 1 timed essay + review, 2 untimed verbal sections + review after each question (including definition lookup), or 2 timed verbal sections + review after entire section, repeat if time left
  • Total Test Verbal Practice: write 1 timed essay + review, 1 timed quant section + review after entire section, 1 timed verbal section + review after entire section

Our busiest students don’t have 2 hours to sit down and study. No problem, then do 1 hours.

Check out the GRE test structure from the test maker’s website. You can see there are many combinations of practice that you can do in two hours.

gre exam time questions

One-Hour Study Sessions

Here are some options for a one-hour study session:

  • Quant Day: 1 untimed quant section + review after each question, 1 timed quant section + review after entire section, repeat
  • Verbal Day: write 1 timed essay + review, 1 untimed verbal section + review after each question (including definition lookup) or 1 timed verbal section + review after entire section, repeat if time left
  • Total Test Practice: write 1 timed essay + review, 1 timed quant section + review after entire section, or 1 timed verbal section + review after entire section

Under One-Hour Study Sessions

If you only have less than one hour per day to study, you will have to lengthen your timeline for taking the GRE AND be sure to study every day.

  • Quant Day: 1 untimed quant section + review after each question or 1 timed quant section + review after entire section
  • Verbal Day: write 1 timed essay + review AND 1 untimed verbal section + review after each question (including definition lookup) or 1 timed verbal section + review after entire section
  • Total Test Practice: 1 timed quant section + review after entire section and 1 timed verbal section + review after entire section

Every once in a while, you will have to take a practice test, which is best done in one sitting (2 hours).

How long should I study for the GRE each week?

The number of days you study for the GRE each week depends on the length of your study sessions (max 2 hours) and how long you have until you take the GRE. We have a few recommended study schedules, but NO MATTER WHAT you need to study on the weekends. Your mind will be more relaxed and you will have more time to deep dive into concepts. Seriously…make sure you study on the weekends.

Also, it is better to study in the mornings after breakfast because your mind will be fresh. Your ability to understand and retain the concepts will be much better than if you study later in the day.

Super Dedicated Study Schedule

  • Monday-Thursday: 2 hours
  • Friday: Rest (this is important as well!)
  • Saturday: 2 hours
  • Sunday: 2 hours

Total weekly study time: 12 hours

Typical Study Schedule

  • Monday, Wednesday: 2 hours
  • Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: Rest
  • Saturday: 2 hours
  • Sunday: 2 hours

Total weekly study time: 6 hours

Long Leisurely Study Schedule

  • Saturday: 2 hours
  • Sunday: 2 hours

Total weekly study time: 4 hours

Scheduling time to study for the GRE

time to study for the gre

The best way to schedule time to study for the GRE is to accept that it will be your part-time job for a couple of months.

Imagine…

Just two short months is the gateway to the rest of your life. Dig in for only 8 to 10 weeks and the rest of your life will flower and bloom.

You’ll get that graduate degree that you always wanted.

Or you’ll get a better job.

You’ll earn more money.

Or you’ll transition to an industry you really want to be in.

Are you seriously going to let two months stand between you and leveling up your game? Of course not.

Make it even easier on yourself by doing the following:

  1. Decide on your weekly study schedule beforehand. See above for ideas.
  2. Schedule your study sessions. Actually, put them on your calendar.
  3. Set an alarm for 5 minutes before your session is supposed to begin.
  4. Set a timer for the length of the lesson. Knowing how much time you have left will keep you focused.
  5. Tell your friends and family that you are studying for the GRE so they will leave you alone.

Tips to maximize the effectiveness of your study for the GRE

All studying isn’t created equal! Follow these tips to make sure your study sessions actually boost your score and don’t spin your wheels.

1. Take a practice test to establish your baseline (and fear)

Many people just launch into studying without having an overview of the test or knowing where the start line is. Before you start your studying in earnest, take a practice test. Write down the date and score for the quant and verbal so you can track your progress. Don’t use an official GRE for the baseline. Any of these practice tests are fine.

2. Review FIRST!

So many students think just taking and reviewing tests will increase their scores. This is madness! Undertake a comprehensive review of each subject first and practice. Then you can grid out tests with the confidence that you know what you are doing.

If you are working with a tutor or taking a test prep class, just follow along and keep up. They will organize the review for you!

3. Take regular practice tests during your review

Even though you are doing a comprehensive review, you should not get paralyzed in review mode. Many students do. Even 2 to 3 weeks, depending on your test prep timeline, you need to take a practice test.

Regular practice testing will:

  • Keep you focused on the time. You don’t have FOREVER to complete the GRE.
  • Develop your test-taking strategies. For some students, test-taking strategy is even more important than knowing every concept.
  • Help you track your progress. You should see a generally increasing trend in your scores.
  • Give you feedback so you can study more, get a tutor, manage your expectations, change your test day, or whatever.

4. Thoroughly review your practice tests

It’s not enough just to take tests…

You need to thoroughly review them!

Too many people just look at the right answer and move on. There is so much information you should be deriving from your practice test review:

  • Did you finish the section on time?
  • Did you take longer on some questions than others?
  • If you took a long time on the question, did you get it right?
  • Did you miss the same types of questions or were the mistakes in different categories or levels of difficulty?
  • Did you have to skip or guess on any questions?
  • How can you adjust your test-taking strategy to increase your score?

After completing this high-level analysis, you should rework every single wrong answer WITHOUT looking at the explanations. If you don’t know how to get started, read enough of the answer explanation only to give you a way in.

5. Do drills

You don’t always have to complete a 30 or 35-minute section. There is a lot of value in doing drills. To do a drill, just complete a specific number of problems in a specific time. Here’s the timing for the GRE:

  • Verbal: 10 questions in 15 minutes
  • Quant: 10 questions in 17 minutes

Breaking a section up into chunks is a great way to:

a) study/practice a few questions if you don’t have much time

b) stay focused at the end of a long study session

c) check whether you really have a timing issue

You can also consider the timed test sections we write about before as longer drills.

Are Dubai GRE Tutors Worth It?

If you want to take the GRE, let’s just be honest…you can just find videos on the internet or cobble together some stuff from Khan Academy. There are even lots of “past papers” that you can download and work on until you think you know what you are doing. But is that the best way to prepare? Are Dubai GRE tutors worth it?

Obviously, we are biased. But, we think hiring a GRE tutor in Dubai is absolutely worth it. Here’s why:

1. You are also hiring an advisor.

The best tutors are absolutely itching to answer not only your GRE questions, but also your questions about admissions, colleges, and the graduate school experience. That person can advise you informally on the process. Moreover, she can give feedback regarding other people’s opinions about graduate programs, deadlines, and more.

Often, our students ask us for university ideas, language tests like the IELTS, and GPAs. Any student who is not studying in the American system may not be familiar with the testing style of the GRE. Since we also do academic coaching, we know about many of the curricula in Dubai. That enables us to offer specific feedback based on the system a student is coming from.

Want to know more about how many extracurricular activities you should have? Don’t know if you should apply to graduate schools in Canada or if you even need the GRE for that. Wondering how many schools to apply to?

A good tutor can answer all these questions and more.

2. The internet doesn’t talk back.

Khan Academy videos aren’t going to answer your specific question about counting problems. It’s not going to explain the same question in a different way. It’s not going to figure out that your problem with algebra is because you need a review of signed numbers.

Preparing for the GRE online using a prerecorded course is a one-way conversation. It can be helpful, but without a live person to ask questions, you’re shortchanging yourself on your prep.

Yes, you can Google the answers to your questions…

But which way is the best way? Your tutor knows.

One of the most frequent questions we are asked about the verbal sections, for example, is if a student should strategically skip the text completion questions (the first part of the verbal sections and easily the hardest). How do we know the answer?

During the first verbal lesson, we informally assess your vocabulary and reading ability as well as ask questions about how often you read and what you read. We make our recommendation based on our observation of you. The internet isn’t going to do that for you.

3. The internet doesn’t have an opinion.

Is NYU better than Columbia? Should you get a master’s in Engineering or an MBA? What’s a good graduate degree for someone who likes theater but doesn’t want to be an actor?

You can Google all day but the internet isn’t going to learn your personality and answer give you a personalized answer. General answers, sure. One just for you? Nope.

4. Your tutor’s energy is important.

Preparing for the GRE is tiring. You have work, hobbies, friends, family obligations, and more. You’re tired.

But…

Your tutor isn’t. She’s going to show up bright and excited about learning. She’s going to be well-prepared and happy to answer your questions. She will gently guide you when you have a “brain fart.”

Most importantly, she’s seen many students–just like you–go through this exact process and succeed. So many of her other students will have gotten their happy academic ending, so she knows that you can get yours. Want to see how it turned out for our students? Read our testimonials.

5. Your tutor will provide valuable accountability.

We cannot stress this enough–tutors provide accountability.

If you’re tired, you can just study tomorrow…

Unless you have to meet with your tutor.

Don’t feel like taking the GRE in December? Maybe you can leave it until March…

Unless your tutor is expecting you to do it in December.

You don’t have to study, do homework, or sit for practice tests…

Unless your tutor is waiting for the results.

You get the point.

6. BONUS! She will grade your essays.

We’ve provided guidance and sample essays for the GRE Argument and GRE Issue essays, but there is no substitute for feedback on your writing.

Your tutor will read and grade as many essays as you write.

Don’t think this matters?

The first HOUR of the GRE is two essays that graduate programs barely care about. Score well and it doesn’t seem to matter, but score poorly…well, your profile does not look as good to programs anymore.

Besides, you don’t want to be rushed and anxious in the first hour. It can lead to you bombing the part of the test that programs really do care about and the parts that matter in your composite score.

Make it easy on yourself: write the essays, get the feedback from your tutor, go into the GRE breezing through the essays.

When are GRE Tutors Not Worth It?

When you aren’t prepared to do the work.

Your tutor won’t be there on test day. She won’t take the test for you (although we have been asked many times). She won’t do the homework or practice tests for you.

Make sure you are ready to get started when you hire a tutor.

A good tutor will keep you on track to ensure you reach your education goals. Have the discipline to make it without one? Maybe, but you might not realize that you don’t until the GRE is next week and you haven’t studied enough. We wouldn’t take chances, though. So ask yourself: do you feel lucky?

Digital SAT Practice Tests

0

Here are digital SAT practice tests…for FREE. Yes, you read that correctly, for free. We’ve searched online extensively and scoured test prep makers websites to bring one source of free SAT practice tests to you. Bookmark this page!

Before you check out all of the tests, here are a few things you need to know:

1. These tests are for the version of the Digital SAT after March 2023.

The SAT changed in March 2023 and became digital. If you use any tests BEFORE this date, they cover the old pencil and paper SAT. Unfortunately, the reading and writing section on the old SAT is VERY different from what it is now. Be sure you’re using the correct materials! If the reading has 5 long passages, you have a test for the old SAT.

And no…

Practicing the wrong format won’t help you. Not only are all the texts shorter but also there are new question types. Don’t waste precious practice time using old tests.

2. These tests are full-length and include 4 modules.

The official SAT has 4 modules: reading and writing (modules 1 + 2) and math (modules 1 + 2). If you find tests online without these modules, they aren’t the best free SAT practice resources.

3. There are paper and digital SAT practice tests in this mix.

The real SAT is digital, but there is value in working the pencil and paper exams as well. The pencil and paper tests are non-adaptive, so they include all the questions of all difficulty levels. Working paper exams forces you to up your game, something that doesn’t necessarily happen when you only complete digital tests.

4. Learn the right way to use practice tests.

  • Time yourself
  • Do them in 1 sitting (not over several days)
  • Answer all the questions
  • Rework any incorrect answers completely

Now that you know how to use them…here are the tests!

Free Digital SAT Practice Tests

College Board Official Free SAT Practice Tests

The College Board, the makers of the SAT, always post free tests on their website. These tests are awesome because they include actual retired test questions from the makers of the exam and are formatted exactly like the real SAT. You’ll want to start and end your studying by taking a College Board practice test.

You can (AND should) do these tests on the official Digital SAT Bluebook App.

Click here to download the Bluebook App

You can also do the non-adaptive paper tests so that you can see ALL the level questions from the digital tests:

Frequently Asked Questions about Digital SAT Practice Tests

How do I practice digital SAT?

It’s super simple. Download the Bluebook App, log in using your College Board account information, scroll down, and click Full-Length Practice. The timing, question types, and experience are exactly like test day.

BONUS? You’ll use the same app for the actual SAT so you should be ready for test day.

Is Digital SAT easier?

Definitely NOT! We’ve found the level of difficulty of the math to be the same as the old SAT. The ready and writing texts are shorter than the old passages but now there are more vocabulary-based questions. The key benefit of the Digital SAT is that is shorter than the old SAT so you don’t have to concentrate for as long.

Does Khan Academy have digital SAT practice?

Yes, Khan Academy does have digital SAT practice. However, there are not enough questions on Khan Academy to rely solely on that as a source for your preparation. You can do the math questions from the old SAT tests for more practice.

Is there a digital SAT test?

There is now! Just to be clear: the digital SAT is on a computer but not online.

The test is given on the same schedule as the old SAT, so you cannot take it whenever you want. In order to take the test, you have to go to the SAT test center with your device and take the test in the app.

What is the total score for the digital SAT?

The scoring for the digital SAT is the same as the old SAT. Reading and writing (verbal) are scored from 200 to 800. Math is scored from 200 to 800. Therefore, the total possible score for the digital SAT is 1600.

Does the digital SAT have an essay?

The digital SAT does NOT have an essay. College Board discontinued the essay from the SAT completely several years ago.

You can register for any SAT that is available on the College Board website. So, plan ahead and register well before the deadline. You can also register for later SATs, not just the next one. You are more likely to get a seat at the school you want if you sign up early. Check out our instructions on how to register for the SAT in Dubai.

4. Download the Bluebook app and take a practice test before you go.

Test day can be super chaotic! Be sure to download the official digital SAT app that you will use on test day. You should also do at least 1 full-length practice test so you know the format of the test.

Open the app the day before the SAT to make sure everything works.

11 Pros and Cons of GMAT Coaching in Dubai

There are lots of options for GMAT coaching in Dubai. But how do you choose? Or should you even do GMAT coaching? Can’t you just prepare on your own? Hopefully, we can help you make up your mind with our list of 11 pros and cons of GMAT coaching in Dubai.

Of course, we are biased because we have seen how coaching eases the burden of GMAT preparation and transforms people’s lives as they take the next step of higher education. We’ve tried to be as objective as possible, though. ?

1. Con: You have to pay for GMAT coaching in Dubai.

The cost is the absolute biggest con of GMAT coaching in Dubai. You have to pay for it! You could use that money to take a nice trip somewhere or spend it on the actual GMAT test (which is like AED 1,000), IELTS (another AED 1,000), and application fees (which usually range from AED 200 to AED 1,000 each!).

Pursuing an MBA is definitely going to cost you.

Do you know what costs more?

The MBA! Many programs range from AED 150,000 to AED 400,000, so there will be more money to shell out.

But, do you know what costs even more?

Missed opportunities and regrets.

Imagine saving AED 6,000 on GMAT coaching in Dubai, but missing out on great schools because you have a mediocre GMAT score. Or, missing out on a scholarship because you did not seem like a great all-around candidate. Or, having to apply for an MBA program FOR YEARS because no one will take you with your GMAT score.

We have seen all these scenarios.

Fortunately…

2. Pro: You have a range of learning and fee options.

There are lots of options for GMAT coaching in Dubai. A popular option is to take a course, primarily because it is cheaper than private tutoring. Through the course, you will:

  • Get high-quality materials for GMAT prep (Every test maker has “special” course books only available to students who take the course.)
  • Learn premium GMAT strategies (Most of these strategies aren’t taught in the retail books, but can increase your score)
  • Be guided by a (hopefully) expert instructor
  • Get back into study mode, which will be helpful when you start your MBA

Unfortunately, you will also be:

  • Tied to a schedule that may not always be convenient for you
  • Taught at a middle (not your own) pace
  • Exposed to the anxiety-raising ideas and gossip of the other students (who rarely know what they are talking about)
  • Pushed to finish the course even if you are not ready

If only there were a way to pay the same price as a group course but get private GMAT coaching in Dubai

There is! With Apply Me.

We offer all the benefits of GMAT group coaching, with none of the drawbacks, for the same price!

3. Con: There’s accountability.

Some students want to do what they want to do when they want to do it. MBA dreams are wonderful until someone actually starts asking you if you did a practice test or started your application.

Accountability can feel terrible if you’re not ready to actually pursue the goals you have in mind. But if you are ready…

4. Pro: There’s accountability.

Then accountability is a wonderful thing!

You have someone holding you responsible for what you said you are going to do. In most cases, that actually makes you do it.

A good GMAT coach is an accountability partner. They ask (and care!) that you are pursuing your MBA dreams and they advise you on the best route to get there.

5. Con: Your score may not increase with GMAT coaching in Dubai.

It does happen. Every now and again, we teach a student whose score does not increase with coaching. As soon as we work on the quant, the verbal fails. Or, they say they are doing their homework, but aren’t, so they continue to score low on practice tests. Or, they have math concept gaps that are significant that even 40 hours of tutoring wouldn’t be enough.

However, these students are rare.

If you think you may be one of them, Whatsapp us and set up a consultation. The GMAT coach will tell you honestly if 20 hours will be enough. Eventually, she will have to sit across from you and tell you if she was dishonest just to “sell” you because she would have been teaching you for 2 months. You won’t find that type of honesty in group classes.

6. Pro: Private GMAT coaching in Dubai gives you the best chance of increasing your score in the shortest amount of time.

Absolutely! You are learning from an expert who has helped many students increase their scores. She will know what needs to be done and when.

If you are short on time, then you definitely need GMAT coaching in Dubai. You don’t have time for false starts in studying or looking for the perfect prep book or searching for the best practice tests. You also don’t have ages to go through books to learn concepts you can be taught in one lesson.

7.  Con: GMAT prep requires 10-15 hours per week for up to 3 months even with a coach.

This is just the plain truth. You’ll have to put the work in. For the GMAT, that work will take you 10 to 15 hours a week, especially if you want to take the test in around 2 months.

However, with GMAT coaching in Dubai, the time it would have taken you is cut in half. So, imagine having 2 lessons a week for 4 hours and then having 6 hours of homework rather than 15 hours or more of wheel-spinning self-study.

Not to mention the frustration…

8. Pro: Your GMAT coach will tell you the most efficient way to allocate your time.

She just knows stuff! Your GMAT coach will sit down and discuss your schedule with you, considering your testing and application time frame. There are no amount of Google searches or online quizzes that will give you this type of personalized feedback.

9. Con: You have to do homework and practice tests.

Yes, if you prepare for the GMAT, you will have to do homework and practice tests. With GMAT coaching in Dubai, there will also be somewhere there asking whether you did your homework or at least noticing that you didn’t (sometimes tutors politely don’t mention it the first time we notice).

But again…

If you want an MBA, this is part of the journey.

10. Pro: Someone else has done the heavy lifting of finding out what you need to know.

Yes, you can buy a GMAT prep book. It will show you the topics you need to review, but…

Will it pull extra practice problems when it is clear you have an issue solving multi-step algebra problems?

Will it send you GMAT books from 2016, 2017, 2018, and so on when you’ve completed the latest Official Guide?

Will it teach you premium test strategies from different test makers normally reserved for people paying ALOT of money for preparation?

No…no it won’t.

11. Pro: Private GMAT coaching in Dubai allows maximum flexibility.

So what’s the best GMAT coaching in Dubai? Private!

Private tutoring will give you maximum flexibility for your schedule, maximum flexibility for your learning, and maximum flexibility on HOW you achieve your MBA goals.

BONUS Pro: You get an expert to guide you through your journey.

The final reason we recommend private GMAT coaching in Dubai is that you, ideally, get someone who gets in the trenches with you. You get someone to call when you don’t want to study. Someone who cares about your GMAT/MBA “research” because your girlfriend doesn’t want to hear about it for the 50th time. Someone who will encourage you to keep going even when you have reservations about the process or the outcome.

You don’t get a “trench buddy” with self-study and you certainly don’t get one in a course. If you need or want that level of commitment to your goals, Whatsapp us.

FAQ about GMAT Coaching in Dubai

Which coaching is best for GMAT?

We recommend private GMAT coaching because it is tailored to the student. In a classroom course, the instructor has to complete a certain amount of course material. It is easy to be “taught over” as a student or to fall behind because there is not much accountability. Apply Me offers private GMAT coaching for about the same price as classroom courses.

How much does a GMAT course cost?

The cost for a GMAT course depends on if it is online, in person, classroom, or private. In general, in-person classroom courses in Dubai cost about AED 6,000. Almost no one, except Apply Me, posts their prices in Dubai, so you will have to negotiate with the prep company sales staff for the best offer.

Are 2 months enough for GMAT?

It depends. One way to determine how many months you will need to prepare for the GMAT is to take a practice test to determine your baseline score (your score before any preparation). In general, if you score under 500, you will need more than 3 months to prepare for the GMAT. In many cases, significantly more.

If you score between 500 and 600, you need 3 months of studying 10 to 15 hours per week.

If you score between 600 and 700, 2 months will be enough time for GMAT.

Scoring 700 to 800? What are you waiting for?!? Go take the test NOW!

Can GMAT be done in 1 month?

It’s possible, but first, you have to establish your baseline score. If you only have 1 month to prepare, we recommend that you take the real GMAT immediately. This first attempt will give you a baseline score, acquaint you with the official testing process, help eliminate test-taking anxiety, and show you what you are up against. Then, you have to get to serious work…preferably with an excellent GMAT coach to guide you.

However, we recommend that you have at least 6 weeks to prepare. Time is needed to learn the concepts, internalize them, and figure out how to apply them effectively. The GMAT isn’t really a test you can “cram” or “bunk” for.

Need help preparing for the GMAT?

We know our stuff! We offer GMAT preparation with a native English-speaking tutor who loves to read and works math problems for fun. She can help you achieve your best score on all sections. She'll even grade your essays for free as part of your prep. Read more about our GMAT preparation and then WhatsApp us to talk.

How to Study for the Esade Admission Test for University

This post has been updated for the 2024-2025 test.

Applying to Esade in Spain for university but didn’t do well on the SAT? Then you may want to take the Esade Admission Test.

What?!? No SAT?

Before you jump at the chance NOT to take the SAT, let’s break down the Esade Admission Test and why you may want to take it, even if you took the SAT.

What is the Esade Admission Test?

The Esade Admission Test is a 3-hour test specifically designed for students applying to specific programs at Esade:

  • Business Administration
  • Law (Spanish only)
  • Law + Global Governance, Economics & Legal Order (Spanish only)
  • Business Administration and Law (Spanish only)
  • Global Governance, Economics & Legal Order
  • Transformational Leadership and Social Impact
  • Business Administration & Bachelor in Artificial Intelligence for Business

Depending on the major you want, the test will be slightly different. We’ll cover the most common sections so you know what to expect. However, all of the tests are in two main parts.

Part 1: The Multiple Choice Test

This test changes depending on the major. It’s all multiple-choice (ABCD), but not always with 4 answer choices. This section will take 90 to 100 minutes depending on the length of the individual sections.

Again, depending on your major, you will have three of the following sections in the Multiple Choice Test:

  • Sufficiency of information (30 minutes): To assess your ability to interpret texts fluently, correctly apply the mental processes associated with the categorization of verbal concepts and information, correctly detail the main, supporting, and/or complementary ideas to draw correct conclusions from a written text.
  • Numerical analysis (35 minutes): To assess your ability to carry out operations with numbers, figures, and/or arithmetical signs and choose the correct answer quickly and precisely from a series of results.
  • Logical reasoning (35 minutes): To assess your ability to identify logical criteria applied to sequences.
  • Verbal ability or applied verbal comprehension (35 minutes): To evaluate your ability to understand and critically evaluate written information, and extrapolate the results to spoken language.

Part 2: The English Level Test

This test is pretty much standard across all the majors. If you have prepared for the SAT or IELTS, you’re basically ready to take the English Level Test. There are two tasks to complete in 85 to 90 minutes:

  • Written assessment (25 minutes): Assesses skills in terms of writing, reasoning, use of language, structuring of arguments, spelling, and grammar.
  • Multiple choice questions (60 minutes)

Yes, the written assessment is an essay…

And you only have 25 minutes to write it.

Fortunately, after you write the essay, you will have it easy with the multiple-choice questions. Well, mostly. The questions tend to be easy fill-in-the-blank, but there are a bunch of them…

About 100…

And you do have to read the entire sentence to know what the correct answer is. That’s the challenge!

Can you prepare for the Esade Admission Test?

esade dubai

Absolutely!

Despite what is written on Esade’s website, you can prepare for the test and we have seen students increase the number of correct answers with practice.

Even just knowing the actual format of the test increases your score.

We firmly believe that you can prepare for EVERY test…and should.

Our homeboy Benjamin Franklin once said (or wrote):

“By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.”

So, here’s how we prepare students for the Esade Admission Test.

How to Prepare for the Esade Admission Test

1. Become familiar with the format of the test.

Each major has a slightly different test. Once you know the major for which you are applying, download the specific test guide with examples.

But first, read the general guidance here. We have cut out the programs that are only offered in Spanish.

2. Use SAT reading and math strategies for the Sufficiency of Information section.

Once you actually start looking at each test section in the PDF guidance provided, you’ll see some examples of the Sufficiency of Information section. There are reading questions and math questions.

For reading questions, use your SAT reading strategies. You’ll have to read the passage quickly and carefully, then use process of elimination (POE) to eliminate the incorrect answers.

The questions will increase in difficulty as you move through the sections.

That means…it gets harder as you go!

But…

Don’t make the classic test taker mistake of speeding through the easy questions. Take your time on the easy questions so that you get them correct. You need them to build your score because…

Incorrect answers cost you 0.25 points.

For math questions, we hope you are up to date on your algebra! If you have prepared for the SAT, you will be ready for the Esade Admission Test math questions. If not, email us for help.

3. Do this practice for the Verbal Reasoning section.

The verbal reasoning part of the Esade Admission Test is more like a logic puzzle. Think true, false, not enough information. It’s important to be careful with these questions because each incorrect answer costs you 0.5 points.

We’ve used these before with students and seen improvement:

If you want something else to practice, try logic puzzles! You can think about them and work them out. It uses the same skills as the Verbal Reasoning section.

Lots of Logic Puzzles

4. Practice for the Logical Reasoning section!

Everyone will tell you that the Logical Reasoning section can’t be prepared for. They are ABSOLUTELY wrong. We have worked with students for a mere 30 minutes and seen their accuracy skyrocket on these types of questions.

Why?

We retune your brain.

Ok not literally…but the process does happen.

The last time you saw anything about geometric or number patterns and sequences was in primary school. You have been seeing them since then, but they have not been explicitly addressed. Once you start this practice, you will wake up your baby brain and force it to actually identify the patterns again. While this process works better with a tutor, you can still do it alone. Here’s the practice you need (do all the easy, then medium, then difficult):

5. Get good at head math for the Numerical Calculation section.

This section is ALL about head math. Here’s a sample of the instructions:

This test consists of a series of numerical problems, which require rapid, precise calculations. You cannot use calculators or make any type of notes during the test.

It’s been a long time since you did any kind of quick calculations. In fact, many of our students don’t even remember their multiplication tables. But…

You need to know them!

The best way to recall these facts quickly is to download and play Quick Brain. It’s an app that will test your addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in a different way. You can download it from the App Store and Google Play, so you’ll get tons of practice.

Download Quick Brain

Once you’ve done a lot of practice, try these sets:

6. Know this structure for the English Placement Test essay.

If you have prepped for the SAT, then you will probably do pretty well on the multiple-choice part of the English test. It is essentially a very stripped-down English grammar and diction test. It will be pretty easy after studying for the SAT writing section.

However…

What won’t be easy is the timing. You have 60 minutes for 100 questions. So you have to complete each question in a little over 30 seconds.

Don’t freak out! If you focus, read carefully once, and look at the answer choices, you will finish this part with extra time. The part of the test where an extra five minutes would be helpful?

The essay!

Twenty-five minutes is a very short amount of time to write a full essay. You have to go in with a game plan. Don’t worry…here’s one you can use.

Essay timing

  • 2 minutes = outline. It is very obvious when students don’t outline their essays first, so don’t skip this step.
  • 20 minutes = write. As fast as you can using the structure we will give you below.
  • 3 minutes = edit. Again, it’s obvious when people don’t edit their essays. Even a couple of minutes of rereading what you wrote will improve your writing. More importantly, if you save time for editing, you won’t be slow writing by trying to edit as you go.

Essay Structure

Introduction

  • Hook or opener = quote, short story, or something interesting to start the essay. Worst case scenario, state the opposing viewpoint as “Some people believe…However, (your opinion).”
  • Thesis = one sentence that is a direct answer to the question. Resist the urge to start with I think, In my opinion, or I believe.
  • Preview your reasons = answer why to the thesis in one or two sentences. If you have jotted down an outline, you already know this part.

Body paragraph

  • Point = topic sentence that is your first reason. Should also be a direct answer to the question and support your thesis.
  • Example = give a concrete example or short story to illustrate your point. Think in terms of who, what, and where. Choose examples from history, current events, science, or whatever you know.
  • Explanation = offer more discussion on the example answering the question why or how and how this relates to your point.
  • Link = mention the thesis again and connect this point to it.

Body paragraph

  • Point = same as above but with your second reason.
  • Example = new example
  • Explanation = same as above
  • Link = same as above

Conclusion

  • Restate thesis
  • Restate reasons or examples
  • Closer = leave the reader with a broader or forward-looking idea

Only 4 paragraphs?

Yes! You only have 25 minutes to write the best masterpiece you can so less will have to be more.

Should you take the Esade Admission Test or SAT?

This is the magic question. It’s not really. You should take both.

Preparing for the SAT will make you sharp for the Sufficiency of Information, Numerical Calculation, and English Placement sections of the Esade test. This advanced preparation drastically cuts down the amount of time needed to prepare for the Esade test.

More importantly, the Esade Admission Test is only good for Esade. If you are applying to other universities (which you should be), they will not accept the Esade Test. Therefore, you will probably have to take the SAT anyway.

So then why bother with the Esade test?

It’s a great backup in case the SAT doesn’t go how you want. Here’s what Esade says about their SAT requirements:

“We do not require a minimum test score. The test scores will be considered along with your whole academic record and personal achievements. However, as guidance, we can mention that the average result that we accept from the SAT exam is 1320 (1350 in 2025) points.”

Less than 1300 on the SAT? Take the Esade test as well. We can prepare you for BOTH exams.

How to Study for the IE University Admissions Test

Applying to IE University in Spain but didn’t do well on the SAT? Then you may want to take the IE University Admissions Test.

What?!? No SAT?

Before you jump at the chance NOT to take the SAT, let’s break down the IE University Admissions Test and why you may want to take it, even if you took the SAT.

What is the IE University Admissions Test?

The IE University Admissions Test is a 90-minute test (it’s actually less than that but it varies) specifically designed for students applying to IE.

Here’s what IE has to say about the test:

Depending on the major you want, the test will be slightly different. We’ll cover the most common sections so you know what to expect.

Language Skills (10 minutes)

Assesses skills in terms of writing, reasoning, use of language, vocabulary, spelling, and grammar.

Numerical Reasoning (12 minutes)

To assess your ability to draw conclusions from charts, graphs, and tables. Most questions are true, false, or cannot say.

Verbal Reasoning (12 minutes)

To assess your ability to interpret texts fluently, correctly apply the mental processes associated with the categorization of verbal concepts and information, correctly detail the main, supporting, and/or complementary ideas to draw correct conclusions from a written text. Most questions are true, false, or cannot say.

Deductive Logical Thinking (5 minutes)

To assess your ability to identify logical criteria applied to sequences. Think: Identifying the next step in a pattern or sequence.

Learning Efficiency (5 minutes)

Here’s what IE claims this section is about:

“This test measures the ability to remember objects that are shown very quickly in the right order.”

Guess what it really is…

A memory test! That’s right. Let’s see if you can remember what you’ve seen.

Can you prepare for the IE University Admissions Test?

esade dubai

Absolutely!

Despite what is written on IE’s website, you can prepare for the test and we have seen students increase the number of correct answers with practice.

Even just knowing the actual format of the test increases your score.

We firmly believe that you can prepare for EVERY test…and should.

Our homeboy Benjamin Franklin once said (or wrote):

“By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.”

So, here’s how we prepare students for the IE University Admissions Test.

How to Prepare for the IE University Admissions Test

1. Become familiar with the format of the test.

Read IE’s admissions test page to learn everything you can about the exam.

2. Use SAT reading, writing, and math strategies for these sections.

Once you actually start looking at each test section, you’ll see some examples of the questions that parallel (though not exactly the same) what you have seen on the SAT. You can use the same strategies!

For the Language Skills section, use your SAT writing knowledge. The Language Skills section is essentially a very stripped-down English grammar and diction test. It will be pretty easy after studying for the SAT writing section.

The Numerical Reasoning questions are easier versions of SAT math section 4 (the calculator section), which includes more charts, data, and graphs for analysis than the non-calculator section. You won’t need a calculator for the IE test, but you should know your fractions, percents, and decimal equivalents. You may need to estimate the relative numbers from charts and tables.

For Verbal Reasoning questions, use your SAT reading strategies. You’ll have to read the passage quickly and carefully, then use process of elimination (POE) to eliminate the incorrect answers.

3. Do more practice for the Verbal Reasoning section.

The verbal reasoning part of the IE University Admissions test can be like a logic puzzle. Think true, false, not enough information.

We’ve used these before with students and seen improvement:

If you want something else to practice, try logic puzzles! You can think about them and work them out. It uses the same skills as the Verbal Reasoning section.

Lots of Logic Puzzles

4. Practice for the Deductive Logical Thinking section!

Everyone will tell you that the Deductive Logical Thinking section can’t be prepared for. They are ABSOLUTELY wrong. We have worked with students for a mere 30 minutes and seen their accuracy skyrocket on these types of questions.

5. Get your mind right for the Learning Efficiency section.

We actually think the Learning Efficiency section is the hardest part of the IE University Admissions test.

Why?

Because it requires concentration and memory!

When is the last time you had to really focus on something? How often do you have to remember something that you see only briefly?

Almost never in your daily life. You’re going to need to do some targeted practice if you want to do well on the IE Learning Efficiency section.

Here’s the practice you need:

If you’re really serious (or really struggling), play Memory. Yes, this is a game you play with toddlers to improve their memories, but it works for teens and adults too.

Play Memory online

You should choose to play against the computer and the 6 x 6 board for optimum practice. After about 30 minutes of really playing, you will see your concentration and memory improve.

We’ve even had students warm-up for the IE University Admissions tests by playing a game or two of Memory before they begin.

Should you take the IE University Admissions Test or SAT?

This is the magic question. It’s not really. You should take both.

Preparing for the SAT will make you sharp for the Sufficiency of Information, Numerical Calculation, and English Placement sections of the IE test. This advanced preparation drastically cuts down the amount of time needed to prepare for the IE test.

More importantly, the IE University Admissions Test is only good for IE. If you are applying to other universities (which you should be), they will not accept the IE Test. Therefore, you will probably have to take the SAT anyway.

So then why bother with the IE test?

It’s a great backup in case the SAT doesn’t go how you want. IE University accepts a MINIMUM of 1200 on the SAT.

Less than 1200 on the SAT? Take the IE test as well. We can prepare you for BOTH exams.
